Lincoln University will host a one-day conference honoring Vincent O. Carter (1924-1982), a novelist, essayist, playwright, and artist. A graduate of the Class of 1950, Carter left the United States for Europe and spent his creative life in Bern, Switzerland.
His Bern Book: A Record of A Voyage of the Mind is a psychological inquiry into his experience as the only Black man living in Bern, while Such Sweet Thunder is considered the best novel written about Black life between the wars.
The panels will explore his writing, style, influences, and impact, alongside an exhibition of his work.

9:00 AM - 11:30 AM: Panel discussions, Lincoln students' presentations, and readings.
